Hey To Everyone
I just heard about this render and I going to try try it tonight or tomorrow . I'm a Max and Maya User . so I can give
feedback on both side .
What bother me right now . is that there is no a help PDF doc on the side , accept for those short video .
I hope that this render will be popular and we will see more people on this board .
and Thx for the developer for making the render.
and hope to be here soon to tell you my impression.
regards
Tom
Edit:
After installing it as a stanalone . I didnt find a way to import obj or max or maya files into it . so how doest I bring scenes into
Gurilla ?
How does it work with max and maya ? via plugins ? and what versions of max and maya does Gurilla support ?
Thx

Re: Hey To Everyone
Hi Tom!
Welcome aboard!
As of today, Guerilla is terribly lacking of documentation, we are really aware of that. Yet, we are quite short on the time for the present time being, as we have to push more features into the editor and the renderer to make it production ready. This will be done when Guerilla reaches that point. Still, if you have some questions about a thing or another, feel free to post in the forum, we'll check it regularly.
Concerning your issue, Guerilla standalone only accepts (for the moment) projects files that were exported using the Guerilla plugin. It is in discussion here to allow import of 3d data into the standalone...
So, to play with Guerilla, you should:
- Install Guerilla with Maya2008 (both 32 and 64 are supported)
- Run Maya and setup plugin manager to (auto)load Guerilla2008.mll
- Load your favorite scene, then run Guerilla from the Guerilla menu
This way, you can use Guerilla within Maya. Guerilla data are saved into your .ma file, every time you close Guerilla or you push the synchronize button (top left). Beware of the Reset & Run menu, which discards all previous Guerilla data from your Maya project!
If you wish to use Guerilla as a standalone, you must export your scene from the Maya plugin (File menu, export). This action will create a .gproject and a .ghostdata.
Gproject files are Guerilla project (in plain ascii just like a .ma)
Ghostdata files are baked geometry information for every object/camera/light, and for every frame.
For the time being, only Maya2008 is supported (both 32&64). We can provide you with install for other version of Maya (8 & 8.5), but unfortunately we won't be able to support them as much as we do for Maya2008. The Max plugin is in a hibernating status now, but will be revived sooner or later.
So, if you definitely need any other version that those available in the download section, drop us a line, and we'll try to fix you something ![]()
A few more tips to use Guerilla:
- The window layout can be freely split/unsplit (try bottom right buttons on each window), you can create tabs for each window (try the + button on top of each window)
- Every window may contain any kind of view. Among these views are :
- The browser, which displays all root elements of the projects (such as objects, materials, lights...)
- The properties, which displays attributes of the current selection
- The cameras viewport (you guess what it is ![]()
- The library, which contains the basic bricks for build custom shaders
There are other views, which I let you discover what they do ![]()
A final note about keyboard binding:
- space bar displays the main menu (around the mouse)
- V let you change the view in the window under the mouse (swap from browser to library, for instance)
- C let you select a camera for the window under the mouse
- right mouse button is of course contextual
If you downloaded the 0.2.3 version, I highly suggest you to rather use the 0.2.4 version (or even better the 0.2.5 which should be available today or tomorrow) as the previous one was quite unstable and much frustration ensued...
I guess this is all for now...

Ben

Re: Hey To Everyone
Hey Ben
Thx For the long and informative reply .
First I may say that I really like the ui . I like that every window can be customize to any window you like .
and that I can resize every window and fit it like much in after effect .
I would love an install to maya 8.5 , cus that what I'm working at my work.
2008 was to buggy for production ,and now that 2009 is out . I think my company will skip 2008 ,cus 2009 is looking much better ,
(I hope you will add a support for 2009 in the future too).
I think that making the standalone support more 3d data is a good choose . and making the Guerilla more flexible, and wide in use.
or at least making a support for obj file import. (along with ma & max)
again thx for all the information .
and I hope to really try it , and post some impressions as I go .
Tom.
Edit:
just one more question for now ![]()
How doest I uninstall guerilla . I can't see an uninstallation in my add/remove program .
and can I install new version over the old one

Re: Hey To Everyone
Maya2009 will be supported soon, in a couple of weeks, as we've been asked for it.
Sorry for the missing uninstall option, we'll fix that soon. In the meantime, you can simply erase the Program Files/Guerilla directory without problem. There will remain a few keys in the registry, simply delete HKLM/SOFTWARE/Mercenaries Engineering to get rid of them.
Otherwise, there is nothing to do to install another version over a previous one. The installer will replace it. Please notice that if you added some nodes/materials/lights in the library directory of the Guerilla installation, you might loose them. This problem is known and will be fixed as well.

Ben

Re: Hey To Everyone
Hi Tom,
I'll do that this weekend, but it will only be for Maya8.5 32 bits, as I have no 64 machine at home...
